This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking the bootloader of android one phones as well as rooting them. Completely Newbie proof guide
THIS IS THE GOOD-OLD FASHIONED WAY OF DOING THE JOB
You can get the ADB, it's drivers, Superuser zip from Tools Section above
You can get the custom recoveries from the Recoveries section above
Requirements:
PC/Laptop with ADB with it's drivers
Custom recovery like CWM, Philz, TWRP, etc
Superuser zip
Basic knowledge of command prompt in windows
NOTE: KEEP THE USB DEBUGGING ON DURING THIS WHOLE PROCESS COZ IT MAKES THINGS EASIER IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG
So, let's begin with the unlocking of the phone first.
Steps:
1. Go to Settings>Developer Options>Enable USB debugging
(If you don't see Developer Options, go to Settings>About Phone>tap Build Number repeatedly till you see "You have enabled Developer Options")
2. Download and install ADB, it's drivers, after installation reboot your PC/Laptop
3. Download any custom recovery of your choice, I'd prefer Philz or TWRP
4. Download Superuser.zip which'll flash superuser to your device and grant root access into your SDcard
5. Copy the downloaded recovery into the folder where ADB is installed (look for the ADB installation folder in Program Files)
6.Connect your phone to PC/Laptop using data cable
7. Start Minimal ADB and type in "adb devices", if you see your device in the list of connected devices then everything's fine but if you don't then start over till step 3
8. Considering you can see your device in cmd, type in the second command "adb reboot bootloader", this command will reboot your phone into fastboot mode aka bootloader
9. Type in "fastboot oem unlock", confirm the unlock of bootloader by following the instructions on your phone's screen
10. Type in "fastboot format userdata", this command will format all your apps on internal storage
11. Type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", this command will flash the custom recovery which you placed in the installation folder of ADB
12. Type in "fastboot reboot", this command will reboot your phone into normal mode and you'll have to go through the usual setup
13. Make sure you don't turn off the USB Debugging option, connect your phone to PC/Laptop again and open ADB window
14. Type in "adb devices", make sure your device is listed, then type "adb reboot recovery"
15. If you boot into Stock recovery, you messed something up, retrace your steps but if you boot into your custom recovery then you're fine
16. Select Install Zip>Locate the superuser.zip in your SDcard and flash it, wipe dalvik cache and cache and reboot
You've successfully unlocked your bootloader and rooted your device
But before moving onto custom roms, make sure you remove the bloatware from your Stock rom and make a Nandroid backup from the custom recovery just to be safe
So far, so good, right?
